Our Favorite Protein Treats

At CFLC, we encourage our clients to get in an adequate amount of protein. Many clients come to us drastically under-eating protein. A very common question that we get asked when clients are newer to working with us is “Can you give me some ideas for how to get in more protein?” While we address this question more comprehensively in articles here and here, we wanted to share some of our specific favorites, complete with links so you can see exactly what we and our clients love.

One of the easiest (and yummiest!) ways to get in more protein, especially when you are on the go, is to have a protein bar. Protein bars have come a LONG way in terms of flavor in the last few years. I remember ten years ago, basically every protein bar I tried tasted “fake”. While Quest bars were, in my opinion, a huge improvement over what had been on the market before, Built Bars really take it to the next level. They taste like a candy bar. I don’t get any of that “fake sugar” taste like I do with many other bars. So if you are looking for a sweet treat and still want to get in your protein (the macros in these bars are great, btw), try one of these! Barebells are a close second when it comes to taste and macros.

Although I am not a fan of protein shakes (yes, I know….a fitness coach who hates protein shakes!?), several of our clients love them and use them as an easy way to get in more protein. Some of the CFLC community favorites include the Fairlife shakes as well as the Premier Protein shakes. These are both very high protein, low in other macros, and many people love the flavor. You can find them online or in many big box stores. Additionally, if you want a true protein powder (either to drink OR to make a mug cake or other protein treat with), we love Optimum Nutrition brand.

Another option that is VERY popular in my house are Kodiak Cakes protein pancakes. We will make an entire batch of these (with chocolate chips in them!) and freeze them. It provides my girls with an very quick, easy, and high protein breakfast all week that I don’t have to cook for them.

Finally, let’s chat a bit about supplements. Although we generally believe no one actually NEEDS supplements to change their physique (we aren’t going to get into health supplements here), some of us really enjoy some BCAAs. I personally drink them every single morning, mostly because it is just a habit and I LOVE the taste of them. Optimum Nutrition has several good flavors (FYI, they contain some caffeine), but my personal favorite is Aminocore .
